Prices, September 2026
Eating out is rising faster than food
Restaurant and accommodation prices rose 3.5% in the year to September 2026. All consumer prices rose 4.1%. Food and non-alcoholic drinks rose 0.4%, and alcoholic drinks 0.3%.
Ingredient costs are fairly steady, so a menu price review this winter is mostly about wages, energy and rent.

Licensing
Late-licence reform is still waiting
The Sale of Alcohol Bill 2022 would set pub hours of 10:30am to 12:30am, bring in annual late-bar permits and let nightclubs open until 6am. As of mid-October 2026 it has made almost no progress in the Oireachtas. Special Exemption Orders are still the way to trade later.

Licensing background
Part of the reform was shelved in 2025
The Intoxicating Liquor Bill was left off the Government's spring 2025 priority list. The Licensed Vintners Association has argued that ending the need to buy an existing licence would reduce the value of current licences.

Staff costs
The €552 employer PRSI line
Employer PRSI is 9.15% on weekly pay up to €552 and 11.40% on the whole week above it, so one extra hour can cost far more than the hourly rate.
